More than 65 gladiators are already registered for the South American Pipe Masters
The most valuable event of the South American qualifiers for the challengers will take place on one of the most dangerous waves on the planet
Sixty-seven heavyweight surfers are already registered for the Arica Pro Tour 2022, a 5000-point stage of the South American QS that will take place at the Latin Pipeline that is El Gringo.
The event with the biggest impact on the local calendar this year will take place between August 15 and 21, and there are already a lot of surfers registered.
The top seed so far is former CT member Joao Chianca (who has a wealth of experience on the wave). Other former members of the elite who appear on the list are: Jessé Mendes, Wiggolly Dantas, Ian Gouveia and Peterson Crisanto.
Also registered are former world champions from different categories and leagues: Leandro Usuna (two-time ISA world champion), Nacho Gundensen (ISA junior world champion), Lucas Silveira (WSL junior world champion) and Lucas Vicente (WSL junior world champion).
And the list also includes several former champions of the tournament: Guillermo Satt, Gabriel Villarán, Jessé Mendes and Tomás Tudela.
Other notables in tubular waves who are registered are: Cristobal de Col, Gabriel Villarán, Alonso Correa, Marco Giorgi, Manuel Selman, Miguel Tudela, Weslley Dantas, Diego Medina, Christopher Herold and Lucas Chianca, among others.
El Gringo's classic event will be held for the eleventh time. The last edition took place in 2019, when he was beaten by American Nolan Rapoza who beat Alonso Correa in the final on double to triple overhead waves.
