Nadia Erostarbe won in Senegal

The Zarautz native won the historic African QS 1.500. "I can't believe it, I'm in a dream right now," she said.


Basque surfer Nadia Erostarbe earned the 1500 points in Senegal's debut as a host of a qualifying series tournament. She beat Japanese Emily Nishimoto in the final by 14,5 to 10,95 and earned the best score of the season after competing in five tournaments.

The waves at Surfers Paradise, a well-formed right pointbreak suited the backside of the Zarautz native who won every heat she entered.

In the semis against Portugal's Camila Kemp, she turned around a potentially adverse result thanks to a 9 in which she broke from start to finish.

“I can’t believe it, I’m in a dream right now,” Nadia told WSL media. “The waves and the weather were great today, I had a lot of fun. There’s a really good right-hand spot close to home and I’ve been working on my backside and I’m glad it worked out. I still have a lot of work to do but it’s great to win, I feel like all the work was worth it.”

In the men's division the grand champion was Frenchman Timothee Bisso.
