Surfers Nadia Erostarbe and Brisa Hennessy managed to win their Round 1 heats today in Saquarema and advance to their second consecutive Round of 16.

Erostarbe beat Yolanda Hopkins 10,83 to 9,10 and Brisa beat Alyssa Spencer 12 to 7,16.

The sea was powerful and both surfers managed a good rhythm in the conditions.

Now the Basque player will face the current world champion, Molly Picklum, and the Costa Rican player will face Sawyer Lindblad.

After four consecutive defeats, this is the second time Hennessy has managed to reach the round of 16.

Meanwhile, for Nadia, this is the fourth time out of six events that she has secured at least a ninth place.

Erostarbe is 14th in the live ranking and Hennessy is 21st.
