Basque surfer Natxo González won the Quemao Class for the second time in a row after dominating, once again, a final from start to finish on the perfect lefts of the Canary Islands Pipe that is Quemao.

González did all the work in the first 10 minutes of a 35-minute final. After two minutes he found a long tube that gave him 8,83 and after a while he found a bigger and deeper one that gave him 9,27.

The rest of the competitors in the final pushed him hard, especially the Canary Islander Jonathan González who achieved the best wave of the final, a 9,77, but the sea played in favour of the Basque.

Another Canarian, Luis Díaz, was also within reach, with a score of 8,23 and needed a score of 9,87 throughout the final to achieve victory.

Just out of reach but having had a great championship, finishing fourth, was the Irishman Gearoid McDaid.

On the podium, the surfers remembered the Colombian bodyboarder Julián González who passed away last Friday and David Infante, the Fula, in whose honor the tournament is held.

“This has to do with those who sent us these very special days,” Natxo reflected.

He also said: “Coming here has always been very special since I was a child and it is a pleasure to come here every year and to be invited every year.” He added: “I am very excited to see all the kids and to see a great future growing here in Quemao, that is very exciting and motivating.”

On January 2nd last year, Natxo González was winning the 2021-2022 edition, and just under a year later, he did it again.

Below are the final results:
1st Natxo Gonzalez
2nd Jonathan Gonzalez
3rd Luis Diaz
4th Gearoid McDaid
