Natxo Gonzalez won the Punta Galea Challenge
In the last minutes he turned the final around against a solid Aritz Aranburu who had been dominating
Basque surfer Natxo González won the 2022 edition of the Punta Galea Challenge after a day of epic waves at the legendary Getxo break.
González waited 25 minutes out of a final of 45 to surf the best wave of the entire championship, a 9,33 that left him needing 1,47 to beat Aritz Aranburu who had been dominating the grand final with several waves around six points.
With less than five minutes remaining, a series began that gave waves to all the finalists and Natxo took advantage, backing up with a six to overcome Aranburu.
In third place was Nic Lamb, in fourth Iker Amatriain, in fifth Miguel Blanco and in sixth Russell Bierke.
