Billy Stairmand's passage to round 6 (which secures him a top 30 finish) and the defeat of the surfers from American Samoa, Fiji and Guam gave New Zealand its second slot in Tokyo 2020 according to calculations made by DUKE and Surfing New Zealand, which already celebrated the qualification in a tweet.

On the other hand, mathematically there is no chance that Australia will not qualify through the CT.

According to the criteria, to be eligible a surfer must place in the top 30 in this tournament, Stairmand has already guaranteed himself a 29th place in the worst case scenario. In addition, Kehu Butler is still in the race and will now fight with his compatriot for the classification.

With this, New Zealand took the two spots available for Oceania since a few days ago, Ella Williams had taken her slot.

The other continental battles are very close, South Africa faced a very inspired Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam and Japan is fighting hard against Indonesia and the Philippines. Meanwhile, the European battle is wide open.
