Chilean junior Noel de la Torre won the open junior category of the National Scholastic Surfing Association of the United States at the Southwest Conference stage that concluded last Sunday in Oceanside, California.

In the grand final, Noel scored 15,93 out of a possible 20 to place local Lucas Owston in second place and Frenchmen Noa Dupouy and Sam Piter in third and fourth respectively.

“I am very happy to be the NSSA junior champion,” De la Torre wrote on Instagram. He also took the opportunity to thank his coach, Israel Rocha.

On the way to the grand final, Noel scored a 10, did a combined of 18,83 and also did a 9,33 in the semis and a 9,10 in the grand final.

At 13 years old, De la Torre has had an impeccable career as a junior. At last year's ISA World Championships, he placed ninth in the under-16 category.
