The dynamic duo formed by Venezuelans Nono Pereira and Lolo Bellorín seems to disappear at times, but all they have to do is enter a tournament to confirm how relevant they still are.

Lolo won the Pan American in December, Nono won the second stage of the Corona Pro Circuit in Puerto Rico and now leads the series heading into the final stage.

Surfing differently, with more edge and less aerials, he looked very solid and beat local star Brian Toth in the grand final with a total score of 18,77.

In the following paragraphs, the Venezuelan tells his secrets for victory, comments on the situation in Venezuela and shares his plans for the coming months.

Why did you decide to go to the Puerto Rico event?
I decided to go to Puerto Rico because I love the island and I've been going to the Corona Pro Circuit championships for five years now and I feel at home with lots of friends. I also felt like I could do well and win that championship. And thank God I did!

How did everything work out to achieve victory?
In each heat I tried to select the best waves and do my best on each one because they weren't that good. That was my strategy for all the heats until I got to the final.

And when you won, what did you feel?
Wow, super excited! I had already been close to winning a Corona, I already had good results and I needed to win it, and thank God I got the win.

You can say that you're surfing using the edges a lot more, doing more turns and less aerials. What was happening to see that change?
Yes, because I had surgery on both of my knees for meniscus tears. It's been almost two years since the operation and that's why I've been surfing more using the rails.

I was really bothered by doing aerials but now I'm feeling better and aerials are coming back.

Those dollars will surely come in handy in these times in Venezuela. Any special plans?
Very well. We are going through a very difficult time in our country. My plan is to continue competing to represent my country and continue training.

How are you experiencing this crisis? What do you think about the whole issue?
Overcoming each obstacle day by day. Better times will come for Venezuela.

What plans do you have in the short and medium term?
I want to go back to California and do some of the events that are held in that area. There you can keep up your surfing because the level is so high. I also want to go back to the next Corona since I am first in the rankings and try to be the champion of the circuit.

Where will we see Nono in 20 years?
(Laughs) I don't know where I'll be, I leave everything to God.
