Nono Pereira won this year's Corona Pro Circuit
Mimi Barona and Brian Toth took home $10.000 each for the decisive stage that concluded today in Middlesbrough.
Venezuelan Rafael “Nono” Pereira was crowned champion today of the 2018-2019 edition of the Corona Pro Circuit, which contested its final stage in Middles, Isabela.
By making it to the grand final and guaranteeing himself at least second place, Pereira, who had placed first in one stage and second in another, achieved the necessary score so that no one could catch him.
“There is no secret, I am always focused on what I am doing, trying to do my best and, thank God, it worked out for me,” Nono told DUKE about his victory.
His executioner in the grand final was Brian Toth, whom he had beaten in the final of the second stage. Meanwhile, in third place, tied, were Josh Burke and Angelo Bonomelli.
In the women's category, the champion was Dominic “Mimi” Barona, who defeated the Argentine Ornella Pellizzari in the grand final.
Barona referred to the situation of sociopolitical instability that his country is going through with a photo of him holding up the trophy and the following words: “For you, my Ecuador, anywhere in the world I will give my best to raise my flag high. Peace for all.”
In third place were Tia Blanco and Alexis Engstrom, who ended up winning the tour.
The waves at Middles broke perfectly and consistently throughout the two days of the event.
