Peruvian Olympic surfing semi-finalist Alonso Correa has more than 70.000 followers on Instagram one week before the Olympic Games, according to a comparison made by DUKE on his social media account.

Correa started the games with his account on the rise, at 23.500 followers and as of today, before the final day, he already has 96.600 and it is presumed that he will reach 100.000 with the effect of the final day.

Correa is the first Peruvian in history to be a semi-finalist in surfing at the Olympic Games and is one step away from achieving what Peru has not achieved in 32 years, since the country's last medal was won in Barcelona 92 with Juan Giha winning silver in Skeet M shooting.

The Peruvian will face the local Tahitian, Kauli Vaast, in the semi-finals of Olympic surfing this Monday, August 5. If he advances, he will fight for gold and at least he will have won silver. If he loses, he will face the loser of Jack Robinson and Gabriel Medina in the battle for bronze.

If he wins in any of those scenarios, he will have broken a 32-year streak without medals.

We remember the case of Italo Ferreira, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, who went from one million to 2,1 million, with 400.000 followers on the final day.
