Olympic surfing chief judges to be chosen by ISA
And the general panel will have half of members from the ISA and half from the WSL.
The heads of judges for the surfing event in Tokyo 2020 will be chosen by the International Surfing Association, Fernando Aguerre, president of the organization, told DUKE in an interview published yesterday.
Aguerre also said the judging panel will be evenly split between ISA and WSL selections.
The ISA president referred to this while talking about the negotiations he had with the WSL leading up to Tokyo 2020, saying that the discussion “lasted for about a year” and that “they (the WSL) wanted all the judges from them, and all the chief judges from them, obviously, the negotiation started with them asking for the 20 (laughs, referring to all the surfer qualification spots for Tokyo 2020).”
The official list of who will actually be the judges has not yet been released.
For Lima 2019, an event that was considered of utmost importance for the ISA, the chief judges chosen were Australian Glen Elliot and Hawaiian Richard Pierce.
