The Volcom Pipe Pro, one of the best QS of the year, begins on Tuesday

All signs point to a fast start as a series of swells travel toward the North Shore of Oahu. Here are the tournament series

The best QS of the year, the Volcom Pipe Pro, will begin its waiting period this Tuesday, January 29, with good prospects for it to start immediately as a medium swell with good conditions travels towards the Hawaiian Islands.

Banzai Pipe has been breaking solid all these days and gave a good workout to the 144 competitors who will participate with a first round 100% Hawaiian and then with those scaled by QS ranking.

The last swell gave at least three good days in Pipe and left Chargers Lucas Silveira, Kiron Jabour and Nahuel Amalfitano injured.

A good number of Hispanics, with a majority of Peruvians, appear among the registrants:
Christopher Col (PER)
Joaquin del Castillo (PER)
Alvaro Malpartida (PER)
Carlos Munoz (CRI)
Gabriel Villaran (PER)
Sebastian Correa (PER)
Roberto Araki (CHI)
Giorgio Gomez (COL)
Adrian Garcia (PER)
Nicolas Vargas (CHI)
Tomas Lopez Moreno (ARG)
Leandro Usuna (ARG)
Manuel Selman (CHI)
Guillermo Satt (CHI)
Aritz Aranburu (ESP)
Miguel Tudela (PER)

Peru is coming into the event in very good shape, after a Volcom Pipe Pro 2018 in which they managed to get Malpartida into the semi-finals and Del Castillo into the quarter-finals. The novelty is that this year they are all together, staying in a house almost in front of the peak.

Lele Usuna also appears to have climbed and has a semi-final result from two years ago. Aritz Aranburu and Carlos Muñoz reached the quarter-finals last year and are hungry for an event they love.

These are the round 1 heats and the rest of the surfers appear in this ranking.
