That's how Caity Simmers and John John Florence's victory came about last Friday, on a sunny Friday that saw Lowers ripping through overhead waves on fairly consistent heats throughout the day.

This is how the WSL finals stage also ended.

Next year the finals will be in Fiji and then we will see if there will still be finals.

Below the photos:

Caitlin Simmers can sometimes seem relaxed on TV, but that wasn't the case last Friday.
The Oceanside native not only attacked the lip well but buried the edges with class.
The last time she was asked, Caity was listening to Billie Eilish, what was the choice for these finals?
She's still a child.
A happy girl.
And now it's time to face fame
The hug to mom and dad.
Champion tail slide.
What better way to celebrate than a good swim by the Lowers crowd, frenzied by their neighbour.
Two surfers similar in many ways are the new world champions.
Rio de Janeiro attracts a lot of people and the WSL finals do too.
These kinds of scenes make one think that it might not be so impossible to hold the Olympic Games in Lowers.
And this one too.
The Brazilian fans always win the prize for the most passionate fans. There were also fans from other sides, though.

The third one that rises.
John John was able to combine aerials with powerful maneuvers to win and that's how he got the third.
The maneuver of the championship, JJF's 9,7.
What is John John going to do this holiday?
Two happy regular footers
Lowers provided fun waves for the finals.
And it will probably never host the finals again. There were four consecutive finals there.
A perfect one
