Panamanian tourism and sports authorities signed a memorandum of understanding with the ISA and the Panamanian association for the 2022 World Masters Surfing Championship to be held in Bocas del Toro in 2022.
“Today the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Pandeportes, the Panama Tourism Authority, the International Surfing Association, the Panamanian Association and @bocassurff for the realization” of the aforementioned tournament, they wrote in a post on Instagram.
"The initiative seeks to become a showcase for tourism and the activation of the sports economy, with Bocas del Toro being the chosen venue for this event, in addition to benefiting the growth of surfing in our country," they added.
According to sources close to the organization, DUKE has until March to confirm the tournament and the wave for it to take place would be Paunch's perfect left.
It is estimated that the championship will be held during the month of July.
ISA President Fernando Aguerre participated in the meeting in which the announcement was made via Zoom.
The World Masters Championship has not been held since 2013, when it took place on the classic right-hand side of Montañita, Ecuador.
This tournament awards the best surfers in the Masters (+35), Grand Masters (+40), Kahunas (+45) and Grand Kahunas (+50) categories.
