Peru confirmed for this season's Backdoor Shootout
This is the fourth time the team will be present at the event.
Alonso Correa, Álvaro Malpartida, Gabriel Villarán, Joaquín del Castillo, Cristóbal de Col, Bastian Pierce and Noah de Col will be representing Peru in the 50th edition of the Backdoor Shootout that will take place between January 4 and 16, 2025 in Banzai, Pipeline, reported the president-elect of FENTA, Elfri Navarrete at the closing ceremony of the South American youth championship that took place last Saturday.
This is the fourth time that a Peruvian team has participated in the tournament.
On one of the previous occasions, Peru achieved a good result as a team, finishing in the top 5 after a dream series, in which everyone took home a few points.
In addition, Cristobal de Col, Joaquin del Castillo and Alonso Correa have had good results in the event.
According to the team's press release, there is excitement among the confirmed participants: “Pipeline is the only place in the world where those who are or want to be professionals are truly put to the test. If you excel at Pipeline, you can surf any wave in the world!” said Villarán.
“The Backdoor Shootout is the most beautiful championship to represent your team. Surfing alongside them, the level of surfing and brotherhood goes up. The most iconic and emblematic beach in the world, it is an honor to be there,” added Alonso Correa.
Today at 11am Peruvian time a press conference will be held to inform about the incident at the Waikiki Club.
