The Peruvian youth surfing team won the South American children's championship which concluded last Friday in the waves of Playas Las Velas, in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

The victory was very close against the local team from Colombia, decided by 8033 to 8009 points. The victories of Camila Sanday in Under 14, for the second consecutive year, and of Sofia Artieda in Under 12, were key to the victory of the Inkateam.

“I am very happy with this title, I have found an excellent level of competition, from the beginning of the tournament this was my goal and I achieved it. I tried to be in the final of the Under 16 but it was not possible. I am leaving happy. The waves were good and the championship was very well organized,” said Camila Sanday, according to a press release sent by the local federation.

These two medals were also supported by Luca Chipoco's silver in the Under 12 category, Adrián de Osma's bronze in the Under 14 category, Manuel Robles' silver in the Under 16 category and Antia del Solar's copper in the Under 16 women's category. With this, the Peruvians won medals in all six categories contested.

Colombia was strong because it had Romeo Chavez and Kahlil Piñares winning in the under 14 and under 12 categories. Piñares was also vice-president in the under 12 category and Chávez won the copper in the under 16 category. That is, between the two of them, the locals managed to get four places on three podiums.

In addition, among the Colombian women, Francesca Arévalo won bronze in the Under 12 category and helped the team get close to another victory in the general classification.

“This time we were unable to win the title. This year it was a close race, with a 50-point difference. If one of our players had improved their performance a little, we would have won the title. I am happy with the level of the Colombian boys. It must be acknowledged that Peru and Argentina came with their best surfers and competed well. Several of our players participated in higher categories, giving years away, and that must also be said. We have a great generation thinking about what is to come,” said the coach of the Colombian team, Jesús Kapote.

Without winning in any category, Venezuela made a great team performance to finish in third place, climbing onto four podiums: Mike Prada won copper in the Under 12 category, Wuingeen Rodríguez won bronze in the Under 16 category, Keylani Flores also won bronze but in the Under 14 female category and Valeria Ojeda took silver in the Under 16 female category.

Argentina was very close to Venezuela, managing to get on the podium in five categories, also winning two golds, Joaquín Muñoz Larreta and Vera Jarisz in the Under 16 category.

Vicky Muñoz Larreta won silver in the Under 14 category and bronze in the Under 16 category. And, another who achieved two podium finishes was Thiago Passeri, bronze in the Under 12 category and copper in the Under 14 category.

The team ranking was closed by Chile, which won three medals with the sisters Isadora and Matilda Bulto, then, in sixth place was Ecuador and in seventh Panama.
