Peruvian Federation highlights state investment in surfing and its impact on the Lima 2019 medal table
Since 2016 to date, FENTA has received more than two million dollars for sports and the results have come (not counting the eight million that the high-performance center cost)
The Peruvian surfing federation, FENTA, published yesterday a note on their website which highlights the impact that the contribution of public funds had on sport and how these brought important results for Peru.
According to the article, the money was distributed as follows:
2016: $392.000
2017: $651.946
2018: $707.676
And so far in 2019: $552.282
This does not include the high-performance center that was previously reported to be worth approximately eight million dollars.

And FENTA plans to go for more, the statement states that they want "Consolidate the state support received in recent years through the Peruvian Sports Institute, and obtain greater support from private companies to generate better results and plan adequate work for future generations.".
"For more than two years, the extraordinary investment by the Peruvian Institute of Sport in our surfing team has allowed the kids to travel to participate in professional circuit championships, which has helped them achieve these results. We always had Lima 2019 in mind and now, with two spots secured, our next goal will be to arrive in Tokyo in good shape," explained FENTA director Leonardo Nakayama.
The leader adds that they will now go for more spots in Tokyo 2020: "We want to fight for two more spots in the ISA World Surfing Games 2020 (…) The brothers Miguel and Tomás Tudela, Alonso Correa, Cristóbal de Col, Melanie Giunta and Sofía Mulanovich herself, among others, will be able to continue fighting for their chance to represent Peru in Tokyo," the statement said.
The Lima 2019 surfing event was a complete success for the Peruvians, not only because of the results, with three golds, three silvers and one bronze, but also because of the huge attendance. Tickets sold out quickly and the Peruvian people flocked to the last sandy spot they could go to see the spectacle.
In the statement, young Daniella Rosas pointed out a significant point, perhaps the one that will be felt most important in a few years: "Great generations are coming and they will be the talk of the town."
