Peruvian Karín Sierralta has just been re-elected president of the Pan American Surfing Association for the period 2020 to 2024. Also re-elected were Ecuadorian Xavier Aguirre as vice president and Chilean Paula Muñoz as secretary, Aguirre himself informed DUKE.

The list of Sierralta, Aguirre and Muñoz had taken over the leadership of the Pan-American organization in February 2015, and was the only one that ran for these elections.

Representatives from 11 nations voted at today's assembly, which took place at the Westin Hotel in Lima. There were no abstentions or opposition for the positions of president and secretary. Venezuelan Thaina Luna was nominated for vice-president and the votes were 10 in favor of Xavier Aguirre and one abstention came from the president of Costa Rica, Randall Chaves, a member of the meeting informed DUKE.

Some of the nations that were represented are Peru, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Costa Rica.

The event took place as part of the debut of surfing at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which begins tomorrow in Punta Rocas.

*It was originally written that the vote with one abstention was for the ticket. The correct thing is that it was for the position of vice president. Apologies to our readers and those involved.
