Peruvian Maria Fernanda Reyes won the WSL in Puerto Rico
Piccolo Clemente placed third, Julian Schweizer and Zahid Marrero fifth
Peruvian María Fernanda Reyes has just made history in Rincón, Puerto Rico, by becoming the first Peruvian longboarder in history to win a stage of the division's world tour.
Reyes won every heat he entered in the tournament against American surfers and always scored more than 14 points in total.
She won the grand final against Kaitlin Mikkelsen by 14,90 (7+7,90) to 12,75 (6+6,75).
“(I feel) so happy to win the WSL here in Puerto Rico. I have no words, I'm so excited, thank you all so much for sending me the vibes. It was heat after heat with good scores and it was possible,” wrote the Peruvian on her social networks after being awarded.
The result demonstrates the excellent moment that the Peruvian is going through. A week ago she won the Latin title in the waves of El Salvador and now she is scoring this historic victory.
She will travel to the WSL World Cup in Taiwan with the wind in her shirt.
Meanwhile, in the men's category, the Peruvian former two-time world champion, Piccolo Clemente, placed third in the tournament and the Uruguayan Julián Schewizer and the local Puerto Rican Zahid Marrero placed fifth.
The men's tournament was won by Tony Silvagni, who left Kevin Skvarna, who had been the executioner of the Uruguayan and the Peruvian, in second place.
Final results:
Men
1: Tony Silvagni
2: Kevin Skvarna
3: Piccolo Clemente and Kai Hamase
Ladies
1: Maria Fernanda Reyes
2: Kaitlin Mikkelsen
3: Brooke Carlson and Avalon Gall
