Peruvian bodyboarders “Pirpo” Yancce and Hannah Saavedra won at Pipe
Historic double victory for Peru in the queen of the waves; "I feel like I'm dreaming, it's something I really can't believe," said Pirpo
A historic day for Peruvian and Latin American bodyboarding took place yesterday in Pipe with a double Peruvian victory in the classic tournament of the discipline in the queen of the waves.
Micheel “Pirpo” Yancce won the professional category in a heavyweight final with the Hubbard brothers and Mack Crilley of Maui.
Meanwhile, Hannah Saavedra won a seven-person series against Sarai Akiona, Nanami Seta, Minami Kawashima, Kaipo'i Koa, Kailana Tong and Aukana'i Koa to win the youth team.
It was the first time in history that a Peruvian won the professional category, and it was the first time he won an event in the open category.
“I feel like I’m dreaming, it’s something I really can’t believe. I never thought I’d win an open event. And I also want to thank all the few people who supported me,” Pirpo said, among other things.
