Peruvian surfing in mourning: Bernardo Zignago passed away

He suffered an accident today Sunday while surfing at Panic Point

Peruvian surfer Bernardo Zignago died today while surfing the powerful south swell at Panic Point, local media outlet Olas Perú recently reported. According to the report, it appears that his leash got tangled with a rock, which prevented him from staying afloat and caused his death by drowning.

Zignago was 36 years old, a chef and businessman, he lived in Lobitos where he ran a hotel and was known for his skill on the tubes.

Well known and loved by the Peruvian surfing community, the tragic event caused an avalanche of messages of affection on social networks. His friends, including several of the best Peruvian professionals of the beginning of the century such as Gabriel Aramburú, Gonzalo Velasco, César Siles, among others, said goodbye to him with heartfelt words on social networks.

“How I will miss you my bro. You are unique, a great friend, loyal, good. A thousand and one million memories that I will always carry in my heart,” wrote the now coach of the Peruvian national team, Aramburú. “I'll see you soon because life is a ray of light. Lots of strength to your beautiful family and all your good friends. A great, Big aloha to heaven, I love you, chato,” he added..

“(…) I will always remember your love, your good intentions, your loyalty and support in difficult times. I could say that you are a great friend, someone you don't find just like that,” wrote Gonzalo Velasco.

Just a month ago, the surfer had posted a video on his Facebook page surfing tubes near his home.
