Peter Mel and Justine Dupont were the big winners at the Big Wave Awards
His hits in Mavericks and Jaws respectively gave him the win; Alms, Lenny and Steudner shared the rest of the awards.
51-year-old veteran Peter Mel and young, daring Frenchwoman Justine Dupont won the Wave of the Year award at the WSL Big Wave Awards for their colossal waves surfed at Mavericks and Jaws respectively.
Dupont also won the biggest tow wave and best female performance, while Mel took second place in best male performance, a prize won by Hawaiian Kai Lenny.
Lenny also took home the award for the biggest paddle-out wave for a bomb surfed at Jaws. The latter category for women was won by Paige Alms who rode a wave at Todos Santos, Mexico.
The award for the biggest wave surfed this season once again went to German Sebastian Steudner.
$350.000 in prizes were shared among the winners.
