Peter Mel surfed the wave of the decade yesterday at Mavericks

"He just surfed the best wave ever at Mavericks," said Jamie Mitchell, who at 51 years old paddled into a cavern the size of a house and emerged to the applause of one of the heaviest lineups on the planet.

"Peter Mel just surfed the best wave ever at Mavericks (...) The fucking best wave ever paddled and surfed at Mavericks. You can wait to see it, but we saw it live and it was fucking incredible," said respected Australian big rider Jamie Mitchell in his stories.

He later added: "Peter Mel is my hero. If you've surfed Mavericks then you know how crazy this is and what his line is on this wave," wrote respected big rider Jamie Mitchell of the wave he just surfed.

Slater shared the post and wrote: "Everyone on Earth should see this wave."

Several compliments came from around the world just 14 hours after surfing it. Gabriel Villarán himself wrote "the wave of the decade" in his stories. In Powelines' video, one wonders: "Was that the best wave in the entire history of surfing?"

Mel had been filming from the jet ski in the morning his son John going on some heavy lefts on a day that was characterized by perfect conditions, little wind and good size.

Then came this right, he dropped the bomb that became monstrous well in the bowl, he made a slightly diagonal line to fit in but he waited to finish the drop to turn with the guillotine already coming.

After making the bottom he was positioned for an impressive tubeshot.

And finally, after that, he couldn't believe it and he sat on the canal trying to figure out what madness had happened.
