Today the first champions were crowned in the Pan American surfing competition, and the longboard category took to the water for its first round.

Vania was crowned champion for the third consecutive year and achieved her fourth Pan American title.
Eder Luciano was thrilled with his victory and celebrated with Brazil, which won three of the four gold medals awarded today.

Max Torres, the Puerto Rican, did not repeat his gold medal but took home the silver.

Another who shone was the local player Agustín Cedeño.
Felipe Avendaño of Nicaragua didn't advance past his heat, but he showed he has what it takes to keep going in the tournament. Now he'll have to compete in the repechage.
