Renowned Colombian photographer José Ignacio "Nashoot" Vázquez was once again in the water at Playa Las Velas in Cartagena de Indias to cover the best moments of the South American Youth Surfing Championship that takes place there from December to December.

Below and above, 14 moments from the tournament featuring surfers from all the competing countries.

“The swell, although not big, was big in the morning sessions, it was perfect and it was the best waves that have come in South America, showing a higher level every year. The experience is tremendous, since the future of the region practically comes from here and being able to share with the kids and record them in the water will be remembered,” Nashoot told DUKE.

Kahlil Piñares was the surfer with the best personal performance: He won in the Under 12 and was vice-president in the Under 14.
Chilean Isidora Bulto traces a neat line to achieve second place in the Under 12 and fourth in the Under 14.
Another who had a great personal performance was Romeo Chávez from Colombia who won in the Under 14 and placed fourth in the Under 16.
Camaraderie and joy were also present.
Eduardo Rivas from Venezuela, letting loose on the fun left-hand side of Las Velas. The goofy footer was on the verge of the grand final, losing in the final of the repechage.
Thiago Passeri bottoms out on a nice Colombian left, placing third in the Under 12 and fourth in the Under 14.
Venezuelan Silvana Martínez is one step away from the grand final of the U16 women's competition.

Thanks to moves like the one in the photo, Valeria Ojeda from Venezuela won the silver medal in the Under 16 category.
