Piñera asked Ramón to teach him how to surf and in exchange he promotes a law

Something big is coming, although it is not yet known exactly what it is. The Chilean big rider met with the president of Chile and two ministers

Ramón Navarro does not visit his country's capital very often, he likes to be in the Pichilemu where he was born, but when he does, it is with class. A few days ago he met with the Minister of Sports, Pauline Kantor, after surfing the wave of the decade in Fiji, yesterday things went up a notch and he met with the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, and added a minister, the Minister of the Environment, Marcela Cubillos.

After that meeting with Kantor, Navarro told DUKE that something important was in the works: “We are working on a very big project, which will leave a powerful legacy for the future of Chilean surfing. We will have news about that a little later,” he said on June 13.

Exactly two weeks passed and what the big rider said was backed up with a more important meeting in which authorities from Desafío Chile (a project that proposes “private solutions to public issues”) were also present.

It is still not clear what the project consists of, but the clues tell a lot: It is long-term because it requires a law (as indicated by the president himself when talking to Ramón), it seeks a positive impact on tourism, the environment and athletes and it seems that it will use “private solutions for public issues” as a tool to implement it.

As for some details of the meeting with the president, Navarro showed him the Cloudbreak wave and explained how to surf the wave of the decade. At one point Piñera stops him and negotiates: “Look, if you take me and teach me to surf the waves you surfed in Hawaii, I'll make the law for you.” To which Ramón responds: “Deal.”

Meanwhile, the minister explained on social media: “Today we are experiencing a historic moment for surfing in our country, where we held a working table with different ministries to promote water sports, take care of the environment and promote tourism. We sealed this meeting with a selfie with Ramón and the president so that in the future we will have many more Ramones.”

Meanwhile, Ramón said: “We have a great opportunity in our hands to promote water sports, so I am very proud to be able to work alongside the minister on this incredible project.”

It is worth noting that the selfie was taken by Piñera himself. Ramón is not messing around, the president is asking him to take photos with him.

“Look, if you take me and teach me how to surf the waves you surfed in Hawaii, I’ll make the law for you.” To which Ramón replies: “Deal.”
