Portelli, a blast and the story

He found this pump when there was almost no light left, just in the water, before 20 minutes of perfection.

Cristian Portelli received one of the best awards one can receive after being injured for about a year: A tubao on a giant day.

The story of how he did it continues here: “I hadn’t surfed for a year due to a shoulder injury and when I finally got back in the water in November I surfed for about two months and in January I got a serious ear infection that kept me out for another two months, so I came back last week and was lucky enough to be able to surf one of these epic wave days.

One afternoon I shared in the water with Manuel Lezcano, Albert García, at the beginning of the session there were five of us but it was difficult to find one that opened up and when we were about to leave suddenly very good waves started to come in but it was already getting dark.

About 20 minutes of pure bliss, all the waves were perfect, and then when the guys came out of the water, I was left alone in the water, almost at night, and then a good set came in, and then this wave came along, and even though I hesitated a bit, I had to go for it, and well, the wave was perfect. I was super happy, and even happier to be able to share that session with friends and finally be in the water doing what I love most.”

Accustomed to getting high in Lanzarote, he must have missed that feeling immensely.

Now you can rest easy.
