Possible swell of Eddie or the Peahi Challenge on the way to Hawaii

A yellow alert has already been issued for Eddie; “There is increasing confidence that a significant/XXL swell will impact the Hawaiian Islands on the 15th and 16th,” wrote Surfline’s chief forecaster, Kevin Wallis.

“There is increasing confidence that a significant/XXL swell will impact the Hawaiian Islands in about a week on the 15th and 16th,” Surfline’s chief forecaster Kevin Wallis wrote on his Instagram.

“While there are a lot of details to work out over the next few days, there is a chance for Eddie-level swell, as well as a massive swell for the Peahi Challenge. But… Current swell timing, based on GFS model guidance, is expected to peak overnight Thursday before leveling off a bit through Friday. “This could result in no 20-foot waves for an entire day at Waimea Bay (which is what is required for Eddie to happen.)

“Wallis continued: The local wind for both Oahu and Maui doesn’t look great, possibly onshore. At this point, I think the odds are better for everything to fall into place for the Peahi event to run over Eddie, and even then, at best, it’s probably a toss-up shot. But we’ll see how things play out over the weekend. Fingers crossed that at least one of these two big events has a chance to happen,” he added.

The swell will occur at the same time as the waiting period for Stage 2 of the CT at Sunset, so the wave is expected to be overshot.

The Eddie organizers have already given the green light for the event to take place due to the swell.
