According to reports from media outlets specializing in the Games, weightlifting, boxing and modern pentathlon have been excluded from the event.
According to DUKE, the event not only guarantees that surfing will be in LA 2028 but also makes the sport permanent in the games, making it onto the list of 28 privileged athletes.
“A long row to the finish line. In 2016 the IOC voted for surfing to be in the Tokyo Olympics, as a one-time inclusion. In 2020 they voted for surfing to be in the Paris Games. But last Thursday, the IOC finally accepted our request for permanent inclusion in the Olympic Games. Starting with the Los Angeles Games, I am so excited and happy!” Aguerre wrote.
“Thank you to President Bach and the IOC and Los Angeles 2028. I'm not sure if I'll be able to sleep well today. Peace, love, health and surfing for everyone,” he concluded.
