Provincial authorities say no to surfing in Mar del Plata again
Individual sports are still not allowed in La Feliz
Surfing in Mar del Plata received another refusal from the authorities of the province of Buenos Aires today after access to phase 5 was not allowed in the city, several local media reported.
The aforementioned request involves the opening of restaurants, gyms, swimming pools and individual sports activities. According to Argentine media, the latter two had not yet been rejected by the province.
According to the newspaper El Marplatense, the following activities will not be allowed: skateboarding, jogging, hiking, rollerblading, cycling, surfing, paddle tennis, sailing, kayaking, show jumping, dressage, cross country, gallop races, polo, and individual activities involving the use of facilities and swimming pools.
The Argentine Surfing Association began trying to bring the sport back to the country's surfing capital months ago by creating a protocol. It received the approval of the city government but not the province.
Sources from that country explained to DUKE that the fact that the two authorities, the one in the province and the one in the city, have different political colors may explain why a place where so few cases are registered does not allow the reopening.
Only four surfers, Lele Usuna, Nacho Gundensen, Ornella Pellizzari and Lucía Cosoleto, can surf in the city due to a special permit given to athletes who have a chance to go to the Olympic Games.
Mar del Plata has had no new cases of Covid-19 for a week. Meanwhile, Argentina has 42772 confirmed cases of Covid, 12715 people recovered and 1011 deaths.
