Puerto Rico Federation also asks for surfing to be allowed
They sent a proposal to the governor and made themselves available for the "phased reopening process"
The Puerto Rican surfing federation sent a letter to the governor of their country, Wanda Vázquez Garced, asking that surfing be allowed, regardless of whether the beaches remain closed.
In the letter dated April 27, which was shared on social media by several surfers and institutions, the authority is told that surfing is an individual sport and that the sea is an unfavorable environment for the transmission of the virus.
The federation also places itself at the disposal of the authorities to assist them in “the gradual opening process.”
“There are precautions that need to be in place to ensure the safety of athletes and other citizens,” he adds, concluding: “The surfing federation wants to be part of the solution (…) by avoiding crowds of people and maintaining physical distancing.”
The protocol in detail was not shared.
The letter was signed by the president of the federation, Oscar Martínez.
