Punta Hermosa Surfing Club asks that FENTA's position regarding Sofia and also Alonso be reviewed
Gabriel Villarán joins in the request and talks about his situation: “For the new board federation it is obvious that I am not qualified, since my name does not appear on the new list for the pre-selectives”
The Punta Hermosa Surf Club sent a letter to the newly elected president of FENTA, Jaime Gensollen, asking him to “take action on the matter” for not having guaranteed Sofia Mulanovich in the final team for the World Cup in El Salvador and added another of his associates, Alonso Correa.
"They have been part of the Tokyo 2020 Program of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (…) We understand that this program must be continued due to the focus required by our athletes and the proper use of public resources of the State," explains the letter signed by Fernando Ortiz de Zevallos, vice president of the club.
They add that Sofia's case deserves "greater attention" because in addition to being a "national pride" she holds the title of defending champion "which guarantees her validity and sporting solvency" and they add that she is "worthy of defending her world title."
"We request that action be taken in this regard so that the athletes mentioned above can secure their place in the World Cup," the letter concludes.

Along the same lines, the multiple ISA World Championship medalist and former Pan American champion, Gabriel Villarán, posted a video in which he is seen surfing at a high level and states in the text: “Epic sessions this week in the neighborhood with my brother Matías Mulanovich. But it makes me wonder if I really don't have the talent or the skills to represent my flag again in a world championship. For the new surfing federation it is obvious that I am not qualified, since my name does not appear on the new list for the pre-selections with a view to the ISA El Salvador 2021 world championship.”
“After witnessing the humiliation, lack of judgment and great lack of respect that our world champion (x3) Sofía is going through right now due to the new surfing federation deciding to take away a well-deserved spot for the 2021 World Cup, I wonder if it is fair that all the effort and commitment that professional athletes have dedicated (our entire lives) to the country is rewarded in this way,” Villarán adds.
Yesterday the new authorities of the FENTA reported the preselection and clarified that only Lucca Mesinas and Daniella Rosas are guaranteed in El Salvador 2021.
The World Cup will take place between May 29 and June 6.
