Young Costa Rican surfer Rachel Agüero has become the newest member of the Roxy team, the surfer announced on social media last week, showing herself happy in a photo with the brand's characteristic logo.

“Wooow, I’m so happy to be the new Roxy rider!” exclaimed the goofy footer from Jacó. She also shared a funny anecdote: “Six and a half years ago when I started surfing, my dad bought me my first board and I stuck the Roxy sticker on the tip, thinking that one day they would sponsor me. Today that dream is now a reality.”

Rachel thanked her family, her coach, Diego Naranjo, and Boardriders' international business director for Latin America, Pepe Landa.

“I can only tell them to fight for their dreams with everything, nothing is unattainable. Let's go for more,” the surfer concluded.

Rachel was a member of the Costa Rican junior team at the last ISA World Championships. She recently won the open and junior championships at the Central American Championships held in Guatemala in October. She participated in ALAS in El Salvador in December. She is currently in Huntington Beach, California.

He visited the Boardriders offices, picked up equipment and is preparing to compete against the high level of surfing on the West Coast of the United States.

Her coach, Diego Naranjo, told DUKE: “Rachel is an excellent athlete, very dedicated and very passionate. We spend many days and weeks practicing a specific maneuver. And, she doesn’t get it right one, two, three, or even the fifth or tenth, but she keeps trying until she gets it right. That’s what I love about her, her dedication.”

She added: “At 15 years old, she has already achieved important things at a national and Central American level and now, one of the important things she has just achieved is that she signed with the Roxy brand and I hope that this will help catapult her to a better position. I tell people in Latin American surfing to pay attention to the name of Rachel Agüero, who is growing with strength and potential.”

Both Roxy and Quiksilver are strengthening their presence in the region. Weeks ago it was reported that integration of the Venezuelan Valeria Ojeda and the Costa Rican Darshan Antequera into the team.
