A clear window of hope has opened for Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz to participate in the Billabong Pro Pipe, stage 1 of the CT 2023, which will begin its waiting period on January 29.

Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam injured his ankle while surfing Pipe and was carried out of the water because he could not put any weight on his foot.

According to sources close to Muñoz, the WSL has put him on alert. The Costa Rican will wait until the 25th when he will receive an update on the Moroccan's health status.

If the replacement is confirmed, all the series will change and Muñoz is presumed to enter as the second-to-last seed, with a better ranking than wildcard Josh Moniz but worse than Imaikalani Devault.
