Red Bull Cape Fear will begin its waiting period on March 15, monitoring the swells that make their way to the feared Shipstern Bluff in Tasmania, the aforementioned brand announced in a statement sent to the press.

The full list of invited athletes has not yet been revealed but the presence of three-time world champion Mick Fanning and the inclusion of two ladies, Laura Enever and Lizzie Stokely, have been confirmed.

When a good swell is seen, the green light will be given and surfers will have 48 hours to travel to the feared wave.

In 2019 the event was won by Nathan Florence.

The press release does not indicate how long the waiting period for waves will be extended.

Previously the event was held at Ours, Maroubra's famous break, but in 2019 it moved to the feared and more consistent Shipstern in Tasmania.
