Red light for Eddie
The time and size of the swell upon arrival are not expected to be what is required for the event to take place.
The yellow light of the Eddie Aikau Memorial Event has been cancelled and the legendary big wave tournament has returned to red, the event's organizers announced on their social media.
"Eddie will not take place this Tuesday, December 31st due to the arrival time of the swell and the questionable size of the waves. The wait continues!" they wrote.
Last week the tournament's alert level was raised to yellow and there was great confidence that the event would take place, but the evolution of the swell was not favourable. As a result, the Eddie has been on hold since 2016, when the last edition of the event was held, won by John John Florence.
