Kelly Slater rediscovered his magic, the magic that brought him 11 world titles at the 2022 edition of the Billabong Pro Pipe. It had been six years since his victory at another Billabong Pro, the one in Tahiti.

Just when it seemed that Slater, just days away from turning 50, would be approaching retirement without having achieved many good results and dealing with various injuries, the best in history competed in an event that gave him the waves he likes: a big and challenging Pipe.

So much experience on that wave put him ahead in every heat, but there was also that magic; in the round of 16 against Barron Mamiya, with three seconds left and needing a seven-something, he dropped and got a tube to win the heat.

From then on it seemed that the GOAT was intact and was the same as always; in the quarterfinals he beat Kanoa, in the semis he beat Miguel Pupo and in the final he shone against Seth Moniz.
