When the recently announced Pan American Surfing Championships of 2023 hits the water, it will have been 10 years since the last major international event was held on the legendary Santa Catalina wave in Veraguas, Panama.

The perfect right-hander lost in the middle of the jungle that was a beacon of fun, tubes and heavy, solo waves for travelers in the seventies and eighties, hosted its first World Surfing Games from May 4-12, 2013.

The waves were consistent, with some days smaller, others more solid, but there were good conditions for every day to have a championship with reasonable waves.

Always remembered is the second place of the local Oli Camarena who could not beat the almost unknown South African Shaun Joubert in the final, who after winning the tournament and giving South Africa the team title virtually disappeared from competition.

In the women's category, semi-pro and DJ Dimity Stoyle won the stage.

Prior to that, in 2010, the Master category world championship was held there, which was another legendary event.

Below are 10 videos from the 2013 World Cup, from the lead-up to the final day, with the presence of several beloved characters.
