Panamanian Tao Rodríguez and Costa Rican Rubiana Brownell managed to reach the semifinals of the QS 1000 that took place in Cocoa Beach, Florida last weekend.
In a competitive event that featured 88 male and 40 female competitors, Rodriguez won four heats and Brownell won three; the former lost to Evan Geiselman and the latter failed to beat Bella Kenworthy.
The tournament was held on small beach break waves, and saw Jett Schilling win the men's and Bella Kenworthy the women's.
Other notable performances were those of Costa Rican Rachel Agüero and Mexican Alan Cleland, who reached the quarterfinals.
The North American tour is moving to the Dominican Republic now, where a QS 15 will be held between the 19th and 3000th.
