There will be more surfers sponsored by the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (INDES), announced the honorary president of the entity, Yamil Bukele, in a press conference he held with the president of the nation, his brother Nayib, last Thursday night.
“Without thinking twice, we are going to support all the talent, we are following up on it, I have heard about talents in both the female and male branches,” said Yamil Bukele.
Asked about the situation of Porfirio Miranda, one of the leading figures of Salvadoran surfing for quite a few years now, who at that time was guaranteed to make it to the quarter-finals of the ALAS stage on his beach, the authority explained: “We are talking to him, he needs to get in line on some things, I think we all know that, tomorrow I am going to do that task, I am going to talk to him.”
“As a representative of President Nayib’s government, I am interested in getting him on track and working. I want him to be a leading figure in surfing. He is very hungry, he just has to apply himself because that is what sport is, and if we succeed, he will have all the necessary support, not only him but also all the young people who are coming, and the girls because we are also committed to gender equality,” she added.
Until now, the most visible face sponsored by Indes was Bryan Pérez who burst into the news of his country after winning bronze in Lima 2019. From there he was sent to compete in the World Surfing Games in Japan and
"We hope that we are a benchmark for what the president is selling, but we also have a huge amount of human talent to exploit at an international level," he said.
On the other hand, when asked by the president of ALAS, Karín Sierralta, if he was committed to sending a team of Salvadorans to the Latin tour in 2020, the president of Indes responded affirmatively: “You can announce the commitment on our part, we will put together the team and they will be our ambassadors to promote us and make them aware of the talent and the beaches we have.”
