Santa Cruz shaper dies from shark attack
Ben Kelly was 26 years old and was declared dead on Manresa beach on Saturday

Santa Cruz body shaper Ben Kelly, 26, died yesterday from a shark attack while surfing at Manresa State Beach near Santa Cruz in Northern California, the New York Times reported yesterday.
The incident took place about 80 metres from the shore at around 13:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The beach was already closed to pedestrians due to Covid-19 but not to surfers. It was completely closed until May 14 after the accident occurred.
Stab said the death was pronounced on the beach and that it was not possible to determine what type of shark attacked him, based on information from the California Department of Parks.
“I am a shaper who taught myself the basics of board building,” Kelly wrote on his site. “I offer the essential basics of board building combined with a fresh modern mindset that makes it work for you. I love the process of creating, taking something raw and shapeless and making it functional and aesthetically pleasing.”
“You should be excited to hit the water with your own board. It’s something worth investing in,” the shaper and surfer wrote on his site.
