Santiago Giovannini: "Anything that happens will not be comparable to what came before."

From being on the edge of the abyss to riding the biggest waves in the world

Santiago Giovannini has one of the most incredible stories in the surfing world today. The young man, mired in debt, struggling with addiction, and unwilling to take on life, saw a light in surfing and, through it, managed not only to turn his life around but also to master the next.

He says, in this long interview, that he went from one abyss to another. Of course, much healthier, more natural, and full of joy. This second one is an abyss because Santi rides the biggest waves in the world without flinching, whether in the paradise he found in Mexico, or in Hawaii, Mavericks, or Fiji.

This story shows impressive overcoming, a rarely seen refusal to give up, and a way of reaching far beyond what anyone can imagine.

More than one surfer has died without knowing what it's like to ride a tube at Pipe, ride an outer in Hawaii, surf the Mavs... Santi has done it all and much more.

But he remains humble above all, and after several years of keeping a low profile, he decided to show what he does because he understood that his story positively affects people and that more than one person has already felt helped by him, directly or indirectly.

Santiago says that riding waves and the dangers that come with them is nothing compared to what he experienced when he was in trouble. For many, crashing a set on a giant pipe is life's worst nightmare; for him, it isn't, and that's why, as he skips the set and goes looking for another, he ends up taking the waves and the waves.
