Special coverage presented by Surf City - El Salvador Travel

South African Sarah Baum is confirmed for Paris 2024 after becoming the best and only African surfer at the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games.

Baum reached a kill-or-be-killed moment in the fifth round of the repechage in which she competed against Silvana Lima and Luana Silva. The African won the match and with that she ensured that as the worst result in the tournament she would place 5th, that is, fulfilling the quality control requirement.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre was waiting for Baum with a ticket stating that “you have qualified for Paris 2024.”

The South African told DUKE that she has been handling a lot of pressure these days and that the 8,17 with which she started the series gave her peace of mind to handle the rest. She said that this is the biggest achievement of her career and that she has faith for the tubes of Tokyo.

On the other hand, another ticket was given to Jordy Smith, the South African can qualify through the CT but stated that it gives him peace of mind to know that he is in Paris 2024 and that he will be able to surf on the WSL tour with greater peace of mind.

If Smith qualifies through the CT, he will leave a spot open for the first eligible athlete in this event, regardless of the continent he comes from.
