Puerto Escondido local Sasha Donnanno scored the biggest win of his career today after taking down the six-star ALAS that concluded a day of four- to six-foot barrels and powerful walls at Zicatela.

Donnanno won a very close and tense series against the also local Jafet Ramos. The latter opened the series with some tubes that were worth around 3,8 and the former responded with a six, needing 1,5 which he searched for for a long time.

Halfway through the 30-minute series, Donnanno found a right hand and combined two good backside maneuvers that earned him 5,17. This left Ramos needing more than seven points, which he attempted on more than one occasion, but above all it set a tense tone in the water because once the partial series leader took priority, a marking began that lasted until the last seconds of the series.

When Jafet broke free, with five seconds left, he landed a good right, got into a medium tube and maneuvered hard, leaving an atmosphere of uncertainty on the beach.

Donnanno's supporters were the first to celebrate, while Ramos' supporters waited expectantly. After about three minutes, they announced over the loudspeaker that they had received 5,6 and that it was not enough; the final score was 11,17 to 9,53.

Donnanno celebrated his victory, calling it “the most important of his career.” He also justified that because Jafet is so dangerous, he had to mark him with such emphasis and for so long.

The Mexican, who has fully entered the fight for the Latin title, said he did not know if he would go to the El Salvador stage that begins this week.

Above all, the big winner of the event was Mexico, which had four of the four semi-finalists and six of the eight quarter-finalists, and then Puerto Escondido, which had two of the two finalists as locals.

This made it clear that Zicatela is not an easy wave and that knowledge of it is a matter of years of practice rather than talent.

Another victory for Puerto Escondido was in the junior category, which saw Gael Jimenez win thanks to the tubes he found at a time when there were not so many. He left Chilean Nicolás Díaz in second, Costa Rican Sean Glatzer in third and also Chilean Vicente Díaz in fourth.

The only foreigner to win today was longboarder Martín Pérez from Argentina, who won a close final against Donovan Ramos, Kirra Silver and Tzahui Poo, all from Mexico, and positioned himself to repeat last year's Latin title.

The circuit continues this week in El Salvador, where the final stage begins on Wednesday, the six-star prime golf course that will take place in El Tunco.
