Sebastián Olarte won the first round of the Uruguayan professional surfing tour today on the waves of Pepe in José Ignacio, Maldonado, after a close final that sparked much controversy as seen on social media.

Olarte started the final attacking with two good maneuvers with a long left. Morosini came behind and performed a good number of maneuvers with an eternal left.

Lucas Madrid and Martín Ottado took a while to get into waves but attacked hard from the backside when they did.

The current national champion surfed what the judges considered the best wave of the final, with more than seven points after landing two backside paddles. Madrid went to another, where he combined good maneuvers but was unable to complete the last one.

Ottado took a while to find his rhythm but also made two good passes that the judges failed to appreciate.

When it came to drawing the accounts, the judges gave the following score:

Olarte received 11,30

Luke Madrid 11,26

Morosini 11

And Ottado is further behind in the scores, with just over eight points.

With this, the multiple Uruguayan champion, Sebastián Olarte, who last year was second all the time behind Lucas Madrid, started above everyone.

Madrid said on social media that it was happy to be back in competition and to be in second place.

Morosini seemed to be going to win the final with that pace, but the judges decided otherwise.
