Four Argentine surfers, two Peruvians, one Brazilian and one Uruguayan will define the 2023 edition of the Rip Curl Pro Playa Grande, which will conclude tomorrow in what is predicted to be the best day of waves of the championship.

After the round of 16 and quarter-finals, it was determined that the semi-finals will see the following teams face each other:

Mateus Herdy (BRA) vs. Martín Ottado (URU)
Julián Serrés (ARG) vs. Nacho Gundensen (ARG)

This result ensures that there will be at least one Argentine in the grand final, something that has not happened since 2018 when Argentine Facundo Arreyes qualified for the final, prior to that Lele Usuna had reached the final in the 2016 edition of the tournament.

The results of the day for men were as follows:

ROUND OF 16

QUARTER FINALS

The two biggest surprises of the tournament were Ottado and Serrés, who for the first time managed to reach the semi-finals in a QS tournament.

With good line surfing, the Uruguayan beat Tomás López Moreno and Serrés, and with powerful attacks on heavy sections he beat Rodrigo Saldanha.

As for the ladies, with the completion of the quarter-finals, the semi-finals were as follows:

Arena Rodriguez (PER) versus Catalina Mercere (ARG)
Melanie Giunta (PER) versus Victoria Muñoz Larreta (ARG)

For the ladies there will be a new champion in the tournament (previously Daniella Rosas and Mimi Barona won in the last four editions).

The draw could mean the first historic victory for an Argentine, and could even lead to a 100% Argentine final if Mercere and Muñoz Larreta win in the semi-finals.

The results of the day at the women's level were as follows:

One of the big surprises of the day was provided by the young Victoria Muñoz Larreta who beat the legendary Ornella Pellizzari by 8,64 to 8,34.

At 8:00 AM on Saturday, the call for the final day of the tournament will be made. The ninth edition of the traditional championship will be rounded off.
