Shark attack forced suspension of Maui Pro

The event will not take place today and it was not clear when it will restart.

The first leg of the women's world tour, the Maui Pro, was suspended today after a recreational surfer was attacked at Honolua Bay, WSL CEO Erik Logan said on the Pipe Invitational livestream currently taking place.

“The competition is on indefinite hold,” read a statement posted on the WSL website, noting that its thoughts are with the victim’s family.

They do not clarify if he died, although they suggest it.

The event had pending the realization of its last quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand final.
