A shark claimed the life of another surfer in Reunion Island

This is the 24th attack and the XNUMXth death at the site in the past eight years.

Reunion Island reports another fatal shark attack.

A new shark attack took place today on Reunion Island, a French colony located in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of southern Africa. The victim was a 28-year-old man, still unidentified, who was surfing in the well-known Saint Leu with three other friends.

According to the French news agency AFP, the bite was on one of his legs and his companions tried to save him, but once at the hospital, the man was declared dead.

Reunion has seen a sharp increase in shark attacks in recent years, with 24 since 2011, compared to 40 in the previous 22 years.

On the island, nets have been placed on various beaches, allowing surfing to be practised in different places. But the most famous wave on the island, Saint Leu, where several stages of the world tour have taken place, is still not protected.

Apparently the group of friends was tempted by the combination of solitude and perfect waves.
