Shino Matsuda and Anat Lelior made it to the Asian and European slots
And they were left with one foot and a half in Tokyo 2020; the Japanese qualification opened up another spot in the 2020 World Surfing Games; and yes, for the IOC Israel is from Europe

Japan's Shino Matsuda took the Asian slot and Israel's Anat Lelior the European one after a marathon day of ISA World Surfing Games presented by Vans in waves consistent with two-metre faces breaking in Miyazaki.
This left them both with one foot and a half in Tokyo 2020, and the only thing that can happen to prevent them from traveling to surfing's debut at the Olympic Games is if two athletes from their countries place in the top 7 eligible at the 2020 World Surfing Games.
Matsuda finished the event in 15th position and was the best Asian, while Lelior is still alive, having climbed into heat 1 of repechage 8, where she will face Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons and Courtney Conlogue.
The fact that Japan has already secured its place at Tokyo 2020 means that one more place in the overall standings will be available for the 2020 World Surfing Games. This means that all seven eligible women and five eligible men will qualify.
On the other hand, Israel, which is located in Asia, according to the regions established by the protocol of the International Olympic Committee, is under the European umbrella.
