Brazilian women's surfing star Silvana Lima will close out her 2018 Surf Ranch Pro season because she will undergo surgery on her right knee that she injured competing at the JBay Open a month and a half ago, the news agency reported. World Surf League (WSL) South America in press release.

“I raced the Surf Ranch Pro, not for the history that will be written, but so I could give my best before going into surgery and stopping for the rest of the year. Of course I didn’t want to have surgery and I waited as long as possible for it to happen, but I decided with my team that this was the best possible option,” Lima said.

This is the second time Silvana has had knee surgery, the first was in 2012.

"As I've already had problems with my knee, we're going to avoid forcing something worse to happen and not keep me out for longer. As the wave pool is less demanding than an open sea stage, where we have to get past the waves and make an effort to get to the outside, I'll be able to compete easily and I hope to close my year with a good result," said the Brazilian surfer.

Lima is currently fourth in the QS and is practically guaranteed a spot in the 2019 CT, and eleventh in the CT, needing a very good result at Slater's ranch to be able to break into the top 10.

We will have to wait and see who will replace Lima. The WSL has been inviting Macy Callaghan for her 2017 QS ranking, next on the list is Australian Dimity Stoyle.
